HS FOOTBALL: Hawks outgun Bulldogs

Friday night’s high school football matchup between Pike County Central and Lawrence County provided lots of offense as the Hawks were able to pull away late in the game for a 48-35 district win at the Hawks Nest.

Central quarterback Tyler Hunt ran for four touchdowns and running back Matt Anderson added three as the Hawks improved to 6-1 over and improved to 2-0 in district play.

Hunt scored on runs of 1, 2, 17 and 20 while Anderson raced 9, 5 and had the claim clincher of 52 yards with less than eight minutes left. Anderson finished with 235 yards.

Lawrence County quarterback Baden Gillispie was rock solid as well, running for five touchdowns on just nine carries and 131 yards. Gillispie had runs of 50, 11, 64, 3 and 1 yard.

Running back Blue Fletcher had 172 yards on 12 carries as the two teams combined for nearly 900 yards in total offense.

Pike Central will travel to Magoffin County (2-5) and Lawrence County journeys to Belfry (4-2) on Oct. 18. Both games are set to kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
