The University of Pikeville Bears will look to bounce back from this past week’s 24-13 loss at home to the University of Cumblerlands when Coach Al Holland Jr.’s squad visits Georgetown College.
It will be the first meeting since UPIKE’s 10-7 upset win over the Tigers in 2016 on placekicker Damir Karapandzic’s 41-yard game-winning field as time ran out. The Bears had not beaten the Tigers in 15 previous tries.
The loss ended Georgetown’s hopes of landing an NAIA football playoff berth and allowed the Bears to share the division title.
UPIKE (1-3) looks to improve offensively, scoring just a single touchdown in the loss to the Patriots. Quarterback Trevon Wofford scored on a 17-yard run in the first period and The Bears managed only a pair of Zaniel Phillips’ field goal the rest of the way.
Two of the three losses this season have come to NAIA top-15 football programs in UC and Reinhardt.
With Xondre Willis out for the season, the running game has shifted to Alex Sanders and Derius Gibson, who finished with a combined 143 yards against the Patriots. Wofford and Bowen Smith combined for 177 yards passing, completing just eight passes between them.
Kickoff from Toyota Stadium is set for 1:30 p.m. It’s homecoming for the Tigers.
