Just one week after being knocked from the No. 1 ranking in the Mountain Top Sports Super 7 football poll, the Johnson Central Golden Eagles have returned to the top spot this week.
Coach Jim Matney’s team defeated Clay County last Friday night and improved to 6-0 this season.
Johnson Central is one of only three remaining undefeated area teams – Pikeville (6-0) and Man (6-0) follow the Golden Eagles at No. 2 and No. 3 respectively.
Belfry, now 4-2, has closed the gap on the Hillbillies and are ranked fourth. The Pirates are followed by Martin County, now 5-1. The Cardinals last won five or more games in 2010.
Rounding out this week’s poll are Paintsville (4-2) at No. 6, followed by Pike County Central. The Hawks are 5-1.
Shelby Valley, now 5-2, is just outside the rankings.
