Martin County overcame a slow start to pull away and beat East Ridge, 36-8, in a game played at the Reservation on Friday night.
The Cardinals had five different players score as they improved to 5-1 overall. It is the most wins in a single season since Sheldon Clark won six during the 2010 year.
Seniors Mason Gordon and Nick Harless scored their first touchdowns of the season for the injury-riddle Cardinals. Freshman Caleb Costa added a rushing touchdown along with Logan Proctor.
Senior Dawson Jude hauled in a touchdown pass from senior quarterback Drake Potter. Chase Damron added a conversion run and placekicker Hunter McCoy was perfect, going four-for-four.
Alex Dials picked off his fourth pass of the season and returned it deep into East Ridge territory to set up the game’s first points.
Martin County will return to action on Friday night at The Rock playing host to Shelby Valley (5-2) while East Ridge, now 0-6, visits Bath County (2-4). Both games are set to kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
