HS FOOTBALL: Hornets roll in big homecoming win

Phelps all-purpose back Dominick Francis tossed a 66-yard touchdown pass to quarterback Riley Dotson on the game’s very first play and the Hornets went on to beat Betsy Layne, 42-14, before a homecoming crowd on Friday night.

Francis rushed nine times for 129 yards and two other scores as Phelps ended a two-game losing streak and moved to 3-2.

Running back Tyrell Hollis rushed ran nine times for 120 yards and Daniel Smith carried only six times for 93 yards and three touchdowns. He finished with 201 all-purpose yards.

Dotson completed five of six passes for 65 yards as the Hornets rolled up 537 yards in total offense, including 406 on the ground.

Francis finished with seven tackles, Hollis added six and Smith added five.

Phelps will host Eminence (4-1) on Oct. 5. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
