Pike County Central quarterback Tyler Hunt tossed his fourth touchdown pass of the game, a 25-yard completion to Noah Iricks with just 47 seconds remaining, to lift the Hawks to a thrilling come-from-behind 40-35 victory over Letcher Central in a game played at the Hawks Nest on Friday night.
The Hawks, now 3-1, had overcome an early 21-6 deficit to go on top 32-29 in the final period before Cougar quarterback Carson Adams scored a rushing touchdown to make it 35-32.
Pike Central’s Keegan Bentley caught three touchdown passes and Hunt added two rushing scores. Bentley had TD receptions of 61, 59 and 25 yards.
Cougar running back Hunter Campbell rushed for two touchdowns and hauled in a pass for a third as Letcher Central dropped to 2-3.
Both teams are back in action on Sept. 27 as the Cougars host Perry Central (0-4) while the Hawks go on the road to Floyd Central (2-3). Kickoff for each is set for 7:30 p.m.
