The Bluefield (Va.) College Rams may be just what the doctor ordered for the University of Pikeville football team.
The Bears (0-2) have beaten the Rams (0-2) in all seven previous meetings, including last year’s nail-biter at Mitchell Stadium on Dillon Wheatley, 14-yard touchdown run with just nine seconds remaining for a 41-35 victory.
UPKE will try and make it four wins at home as well as four on the road in the 7 p.m. kickoff Saturday night at the W.C. Hambley Athletic Complex. Tailgating with the Bears will begin two hours prior.
Last Saturday’s road loss at Reinhardt was a bitter pill to swallow for UPIKE, which seem to have the game in control throughout much of the afternoon.
Still, it took a touchdown pass to Trevon Wofford to force overtime, where the Eagles pulled out a 20-17 win.
Quarterbacks Bowen Smith and Wofford combined for 191 yards passing and two touchdowns, both thrown by Wofford.
Running back Xondre Willis led the ground game with 93 yards on 19 attempts while Wofford added 72 vards on 10 carries.
The Rams have lost to Faulkner University (38-19) and last weekend to Bethel University (49-24).
Bluefield is led by quarterback Aidan Wilder and leading receiver Lowell Patron Jr. Wilder passed for 300 yards and three scores in the loss to Bethel. Patron Jr. hauled in eight passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns.
