COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Bears fall in OT at Reinhardt

The University of Pikeville Bears tied the game up late against No. 10 Reinhardt but the Bears fell short, 20-17, in overtime at Ken White Field at University Stadium in Waleska, Ga., on Saturday afternoon.

The loss dropped the Bears to 0-2 while the Eagles moved to 2-0.

UPIKE had tied the game at 17 when quarterback Trevon Wofford hit Arties Clark with just 22 seconds left in regulation. Zaniel Phillips booted the tying PAT.

After the Bears had a go-ahead field goal blocked in the extra period, Alex Hardy kicked the game-winner from 27 yards out.

UPIKE led 3-0 after one quarter on a 23-yard field goal by Phillips with 7 minutes 28 seconds to play.

Reinhardt pulled even on Hardy’s 36-yard kick with 10:45 to play in the opening half.

Wofford tossed  a 35-yard touchdown pass to Alexander Shelton three minutes later to push the Bears up 10-3 at the break.

The Eagles tied the game at 10-10 on quarterback Billy Hall’s 35-yard pass play to Terry Berdin with 12:55 left in the third period.

UPIKE starting quarterback Bowen Smith completed 4 of 12 passes for 102 yards while Wofford was 5 of 14 for 84 yards and two scores. Wofford rushed 10 times for 72 yards.

Running back Xondre Willis led the way with 93 yards on 19 carries. Robert Sims III hauled in four passes for 133 yards

UPIKE will play its home opener against Bluefield (Va.) on Sept. 14. Kickoff from the W.C. Hambley Athletic Complex is set for 7 p.m.
