MOUNTAIN TOP SPORTS: Pikeville inches closer to No. 1 spot

Pikeville, which dominated Mingo Central from start to finish this past weekend, has narrowed the gap with No. 1 Johnson Central.

The Panthers (2-0), who were tied with Belfry last week at No. 2, take the spot away from the Pirates in the Mountain Top Sports’ Super 7 football poll.

Johnson Central (2-0) maintained its top spot after scoring an impressive 28-13 win over West Virginia power Capital this past Friday night in Charleston.

Pikeville is followed by Belfry (2-0) at No. 3 while Paintsville (2-0) maintained the No. 4 position after the Tigers went on the road and beat Beechwood.

Shelby Valley, now 2-0, climbed one spot after beating Pike County Central. The Wildcats land at No. 5.

Martin County moved up one spot to No. 6 following a 22-8 home win over Magoffin County.

Rounding out this week’s poll at No. 7 is Man. The Hillbillies hammered county-rival Logan in the season opener, 62-8.
