Tug Valley fell behind by a pair of touchdowns in the opening half and the Panthers came up short against Hurley (Va.), 22-14, in the season opener played at The Cliff on Friday night.
Panther quarterback Ethan Varney passed for 172 yards and one touchdown and he ran for another, both coming in the third period. Caleb May hauled in seven passes for 123 yards and one score. His longest reception was 41 yards for a touchdown.
The Panthers return home to Bob Brewer Field this coming Friday to host Sherman (0-1). Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
