PIKE COUNTY BOWL: Belfry turns away pesky LCA

Belfry’s defense was finally able to clamp down on Lexington Christian’s explosive passing game in the second half as the Pirates erased an early deficit to beat the Eagles, 39-20, in the 35th annual Pike County Bowl matchup played at CAM Stadium Friday night.

Running back Isaac Dixon rushed 25 times for 207 yards and a pair of touchdown runs as the Pirates moved to 2-0. Fullback Peyton Hensley finished with 142 yards and two scores on 17 carries and Ben Bentley added 85 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries.

Belfry forced four LCA (1-1) turnovers as Isaiah Birchfield picked off two passes, Seth Mounts added a third and Dylan Goff recovered a fumble.

The Pirates are off this coming weekend but will journey to Dayton, Ohio on Sept. 13 to face Archbishop Alter (1-0).
