Phelps took control early on against East Ridge and the Hornets cruised to their third straight Pike County Bowl win, beating the Warriors, 47-6, at Belfry’s CAM Stadium Friday night.
Running back Tyrell Hollis finished with 150 yards on six carries and a rushing touchdown. He also returned a punt 65 yards for the game’s first point.
Dominick Francis added 118 yards and two rushing touchdown on nine attempts in the season-opening win. Quarterback Riley Dotson and running back Seth Mayhorn each added one touchdown on the ground.
East Ridge’s only score came on running back C.J. Branham’s eight-yard run midway through the final period.
Both teams are back in action on Sept. 6 as Phelps journeys to Harlan (0-2) and East Ridge welcomes Betsy Layne (1-1).
