HS SOCCER ROUNDUP: Lady Eagles capture Smoky Mountain Cup

Johnson Central battled Franklin County (Tenn.) to a 2-2 tie Sunday, giving the Lady Eagles the Smoky Mountain Cup championship.

Lauren Johnson and Haley Lykins scored one goal apiece in the title matchup.

Johnson Central, now 3-1-2, defeated Hall (Tenn.), 2-1, on Saturday as Cleo Wells and Bentley had goals.

In the 1-1 tie with Cumberland County (Tenn.) it was Bentley’s goal which evened the match.

Goalkeeper Chloe Dyer was outstanding throughout the tournament.

Martin County’s Kailyn Gauze scored three goals and assisted on four others to power the Lady Cardinals to a 7-1 road win on Saturday.

Paige Maynard added three goals and assisted on one as Martin County moved to 2-3-0. Alysan Robinson had one goal and one assist and Julia Pinson added an assist.

Goalkeeper Marlie Fletcher had six saves in the win.

Belfry’s Kylie Gollihue scored the first goal against Ashland Blazer but the Lady Tomcats scored the next nine to hand the Lady Pirates a 9-1 loss at Massey Energy Soccer Complex on Saturday.

Abby Huff scored five goals for Ashland Blazer, now 5-0.

Gollihue’s goal was the 77th of her career, moving her past Robbi-Ann Brewer for the most goals in program history.

Belfry’s Kenzie Maynard stopped 30 shots as the Lady Tomcats took 43. The Lady Pirates dropped to 2-2-1.

Lawrence County..0

Lawrence County goalkeeper Allyson Moore stopped 18 shots but host Cabell Midland scored a 4-0 victory in a match played on Saturday.

The Lady Bulldogs dropped to 2-2-0.

Belfry scored three second-half goals to shutout Paintsville, 3-0, in a road win Saturday.

After a scoreless first half, Jasper McCoy scored off an assist from Cayden Long in the 44th minute. Long scored an unassisted goal and Aiden McCoy added a penalty kick goal to close out the scoring.

Goalkeeper Caleb Spears had five saves in recording the shutout as Belfry moved to 3-1-1.

East Carter won the battle of unbeatens as they blanked Prestonsburg, 4-0, in a home match played Saturday.

Logan Cales had a pair of goals as the Raiders moved to 5-0-0.

Prestonsburg goalkeeper Jacob Martin was scored on for the first time in five matches this season.
