HS FOOTBALL: Tigers overcame slow start, thump Dawgs

Paintsville stormed back from a 10-point, first period deficit to roll past Lawrence County, 48-17, in a game played at Luke Varney Jr. Memorial Field on Friday night.

All-purpose back John Walker Phelps had seven carries for 120 yards and a pair of rushing touchdowns and returned an interception 30 yards for another.

Quarterback Jake Hyden passed for 162 yards and one touchdown and rushed for 67 yards and two scores as the Tigers scored 48 unanswered points.

Zach Thompson added a rushing score for the Tigers and Nick Keeton hauled in a 34-yard TD pass in the closing seconds of the first half.

Both teams are back in action next Friday as Paintsville travels to Georgetown College to face Beachwood (0-0) while the Bulldogs journey to Prestonsburg (0-1).
