Belfry opened the 2019 high school soccer season with a 5-1 victory over Hazard Tuesday night on the home turf.
Cayden Long had a pair of goals and assisted on another while Dalton Stacy, Blake Kulik and Jasper McCoy added one goal apiece.
Goalkeeper Caleb Spears had four saves while allowing just one goal. The Bulldogs managed just seven shots on goal. The Pirates had 17.
Reese Fletcher scored the lone Hazard goal.

Martin County’s Josh Gauze had a pair of goals and Nathan Frey assisted on one, but it wasn’t enough as the Cardinals fell on the road to Lawrence County, 5-2.
Goalkeeper Ethan Frey finished with six saves in the season opening loss.
Tyler Maynard scored two goals for the Bulldogs. Luke Johnson added two goals and one assist while S.J. Lycans added one goal and one assist.
Goalkeeper Trenton Adkins allowed both goals and finished with six saves.

Prestonsburg’s Anna Burchett scored six goals and assisted on another as the Lady Blackcats cruised to a second straight 10-0 victory, this time over host Pikeville at Bob Amos Soccer Complex Tuesday night.
Makayla Ousley added two goals and assisted on three others while Elizabeth Burchett added a pair of goals.
Goalkeeper Chelsea Samons posted her second straight shutout.

Lawrence County’s Sarah Lycans knocked in four goals and added an assist as the Lady Bulldogs opened the season with an 8-0 victory over Martin County.
Ellie Webb added one goal and two assists while Jasmine Justice scored once and assisted on one goal. Alyssa Moore and Autumn Maynard each had one goal.
Goalkeeper Allyson Moore had three saves while posting the shutout over the Lady Cardinals.
