Meet Dorton Elementary head coach Jeremy Goodson

Beginning his second season as coach at Dorton Elementary, and first as head coach.

Also starting his first season as a volunteer assistant with the UPIKE women’s basketball program under coach Clifton Williams.

Currently a senior at the University of Pikeville, pursuing a teaching career. Graduated from Jenkins High School in 2003.

What is your coaching philosophy? “Be yourself. As a coach I feel it is my job to adjust to how I coach based on the players I’m coaching. I want those who play for me to understand that they’re unique and that uniqueness is what will make them stand out if they are dedicated.

“Fundamentals, teamwork and communication are things I will always coach no matter what level of player I am working with because those are essentials that no one can ever be taught enough.”

Favorite artist or group? “Alice in Chains.”

Favorite music? “I’m a fan of different types of music but narrowing it down to just a few I would say 70’s and 80’s country, 80’s hair metal, and 90’s grunge.”

Favorite food? “Those who have known me for any period knows one thing for certain, if I had to only eat one type of  food for the rest of my life it would be Mexican food. Tacos 4-life.!”

Who is your hero or heroes? “I have  many, some are still here, and some have gone on. First, my wife, Melinda. She has given me an incredible life with my children and shown me the value of unconditional love. In times of adversity she has shown me how to be strong.

“My  parents, my sister, and  my grandparents who taught me so many lessons that I try to pass on to as many others as I can. My children for making me be the most fun version of myself every single day.

“Anyone who can make a good taco…shout out to El Azul of Dorton. Finally, anyone who ever took the time to help me when they didn’t have to do so, which always makes me think of Randy Davis. He’s the reason I’m involved with basketball and why I want to help make a positive impact on as many young people and my community as possible.”
