UPIKE: Bears welcome new baseball coach

Ashland native Casey Hamilton has been named the new University of Pikeville head baseball coach.

UPIKE Athletic Director Kelly Wells said the institution is excited to have Hamilton, who coached this previous season at NCAA Division II Kentucky Wesleyan as  an associate head coach. He served the two previous seasons as an assistant coach.

“His recruiting prowess will help make a quick impact on the team,” Wells said.

Hamilton fills the void left by Jim Pitt, who left the program after four seasons to take the head coaching position at Union University. Pitt was one of the most successful coaches in UPIKE history.

He is a 2008 graduate of Western Kentucky University, where he was a member of the baseball team for three seasons. He is married to his wife, Alix. The couple have a daughter, Kennedy.

Hamilton will keep assistant coach Jake Sokoll and graduate assistant Sean Ryan on staff.
