LANGLEY – Pike County Central rallied from an early one-run deficit to eliminate Paintsville, 3-1, in the opening round of the 15th Region tournament played at Floyd Central on Memorial Day.
Winning pitcher Kayleigh Thomas scattered six hits and singled in one run as the Lady Hawks moved to 17-19. Bailey Birchfield added two hits, including a double, and scored once while Summer Marcum singled and added an RBI.
Skylar Stumbo and Sydnee Lowe each singled and scored. Abby Huffman doubled.
Paintsville’s Jordan Mulcahy had two hits, including a double, for the Lady Tigers who saw their season end at 21-14. Elizabeth Williams walked and drove in the lone run. Chloe Fleming scored.
Losing pitcher Anna Keeton, Clara Blair, Abigail Williams and Mattie Ratliff added one hit each.
Pike Central will face Shelby Valley at 6 p.m. tonight in the first of two semifinal-round games.
