57TH DISTRICT SOFTBALL: Vanhoose hit, pitches JC to title

INEZ – Johnson Central ace pitcher Chloe Vanhoose drove in Morgan “Mo” Hopson with the game’s only run with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift the Lady Eagles to a 1-0 victory over cross-town rival Paintsville in the championship game of the 57th District tournament played at Sheldon Clark May 21.

She also scattered five hits and struck out 14 in the showdown with Paintsville ace Anna Keeton, who was tagged with the tough-luck loss. Keeton fanned eight.

Alyssa Hedrick and Vanhoose had a pair of hits each as the Lady Eagles improved to 21-15.

Clara Blair had a pair of hits for the Tigers, who fell to 21-13.

Both teams now advance to the 15th Region tournament set to begin Memorial Day at Floyd Central High School.
