BUCKLEYS CREEK – Pike County Central’s Skylar Stumbo delivered a two-out single to score a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning to put the Lady Hawks ahead for good en route to a 5-2 victory over Belfry in the 60th District championship game played May 21.
The Lady Hawks, now 16-19, advance to next week’s 15th Region tournament at Floyd Central as the top seed from the district. Belfry, now 23-7, goes as the runner-up. Both will play Memorial Day.
Kayleigh Thomas allowed a pair of first inning runs and then shutdown the Lady Pirates, allowing just four hits. Kailee Rash was tagged with the loss.
Stumbo also doubled and scored one run.
Sydnee Lowe added two hits, including a double and drove in one run while scoring another. Bailey Birchfield finished with and RBI-single and scored one run. Maddie Vaughn added a base hit and added an RBI.
Emily Deaton had two singles and scored once in the loss. Paula Dotson added an RBI and Linzee Phillips reached and scored.
