HS SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Jenkins sweeps Prestonsburg

JENKINS – Jenkins pitcher Kristen Thacker allowed just two hits and the Lady Cavaliers used timely hitting to get past Prestonsburg, 3-1, to cap a doubleheader sweep played April 29.

Madison Polly doubled, singled and drove in one run as Jenkins moved to 6-15. Alexis Richie added two singles, drove in one run and scored. Abigail Bentley collected two hits and added an RBI while Brianna Turner singled and scored.

Haleigh Jefferson was tagged with the loss as Prestonsburg dropped to 12-15.

In game one, winning pitcher Riley Fleming tripled home the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Lady Cavs edged the Lady Blackcats, 3-2. She also singled and scored.

Richie added a pair of base hits and knocked in one run while Thacker and Bentley had two singles each. Polly doubled while Turner scored one run.

Losing pitcher Katelyn Bingham had a pair of singles in the loss.

Gracie Presley had three hits, including a triple and double, knocked in four runs and scored once as the Lady Cardinals improved to 11-13. Skylar Messer added two singles and knocked in two runs while Brittany Thompson singled, doubled, scored three runs and added an RBI.

Paige Maynard had two hits, including a double, scored twice and knocked in one run while Fallyne Wefenstette doubled and scored a pair of runs.

Savannah Young was the winning pitcher.
