HS SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Tug, Central split two; Pikeville rolls  

BUCKELYS CREEK – Pike Central rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to nip Tug Valley, 6-5, to earn a doubleheader split in games played at the Hawks Nest April 22.

The Lady Panthers, now 18-9, had taken the opener, 8-4. Central is now 11-11.

In the nightcap, Bailey Birchfield and Chloe Neece each singled and drove in a pair of runs while Sydnee Lowe added two singles, scored a pair of runs and added an RBI.

Abby Huffman added a base hit and drove in one run to help make a winner of relief pitcher Kayleigh Thomas.

Brooklyn Farley and Kaitlyn Copley both singled and knocked home one run each for the Lady Panthers while Emily Hatfield scored two runs.

Caylee Akers was the tough-luck losing pitcher.

In the opener, winning pitcher Autumn Hall doubled, singled, scored two runs and drove in one to lead the way. Hatfield singled, scored and batted in two while Copley singled in a pair of runs.

Alyssa Newsome added two hits and scored two runs.

Neece doubled and scored for the Lady Hawks while Summer Marcum singled, scored and drove in a pair of runs.

Thomas took the loss.

PIKEVILLE –Pikeville came alive offensively as the Lady Panthers pounded out 14 hits and rolled to an 8-1 victory over Knott County Central in a game played at Myers Field April 22.

Kendall Hall finished a triple shy of hitting for the cycle. She scored three runs and batted in three as the Lady Panthers improved to 14-6.

Randi  Delong had three hits, one a double, scored and knocked in three runs while Emily Ford collected three hits, scored twice and added an RBI. Kelcie Adams doubled and scored.

Emily Adkins was the winning pitcher.

Tori Hampton and Beth Werner each had two hits and knocked in one run apiece as the Bat Kats improved to 6-8. Maggie Hall added an RBI to help support winning pitcher Lily Napier.

Jessi Ramey scored both runs for the Lady Warriors, now 10-11. Caitlyn Coleman suffered the loss.

GRUNDY, Va.  – Grundy (Va.) erased an early one-run deficit and went on to beat Jenkins, 10-1, and complete a doubleheader sweep of the Lady Cavaliers April 22.

The Lady Wave, now 5-4, took the opener 4-2.

Riley Fleming doubled and walked in the second game loss. Kristen Thacker took the loss on the mound as the Lady Cavaliers dropped to 1-8.

In the opener, Fleming was the tough-luck loser. Offensively, she had three hits while Abigail Bentley and Lexi Holbrook each added one hit.
