McCoy stepping down as East Ridge head coach

Mountain Top Media sports broadcaster and Appalachian News Express columnist Rick Bentley has reported East Ridge High School boys’ head basketball coach Randy McCoy is stepping down.

McCoy, who has more than 400 total career wins, left the door open to coaching in the future.

His first head coaching job was at Elkhorn City, where he spent 11 seasons. McCoy left for Pikeville College and then later took over University Heights, leaving them to an  All “A” Classic state title.

He then returned to East Ridge in 2012, helping the Warriors win the 59th District tournament title in 2016  and the school’s first-ever 15th Region All “A” title the same season.

Recent health issues resulted in him missing most of this past season.
