Central’s Franklin runs away with Player of the Week honor

Letcher County Central senior Alyssa Franklin had a season of numbers in a single week.

The Lady Cougar blasted five home runs, including four in the Lyndel Potter Memorial Tournament, had a pair of doubles and singled four times.

Add she scored 12 times and drove in 13 runs over a five-game stretch.

Franklin was the runaway winner as EKB Sports’ Player of the Week.

Here is a look at other top performances from last week as reported by area coaches:

Johnson Central’s Ryley Preece hit a pair of home runs, tripled, singled three times, scored six runs and drove in eight. Teammate Chayce Meade had eight hits, including three triples and a pair of doubles while scoring four runs and knocking in nine.

Paintsville’s Gunner Collins belt three home runs, singled twice, scored three run and batted in six.

Belfry hurler Kailee Rash  pitched and hit the Lady Pirates to big wins. She belted a home run, doubled twice and drove in seven runs.

Others deserving mention for their individuals’ performances include Letcher Central’s Makennah Johnson; Pikeville’s Kelcie Adams; Prestonsburg’s Alison Campbell; Pike Central’s Bailey Birchfield and Sydnee Lowe; Phelps’ Danielle Prater; Magoffin County’s Kennedi Stacy and Presley Smith; East Ridge’s Kyra Looney; Betsy Layne’s Amelia Blackburn; Shelby Valley’s Jeremiah Prater and Floyd Central’s Caleb Hager.

No hitters this past week:

Shelby Valley’s Jackson Lockhart-Wierwille blanked Jenkins.

Floyd Central’s Matt Combs tossed his gem in a shutout of Betsy Layne.

Floyd Central’s Chase Conley no-hit Betsy Layne as well.
