SWEET 16: Knott County falls in opener

LEXINGTON – Knott County Central’s season came to an end in the opening round of the girls’ Sweet 16 tournament as Scott County raced past the Lady Patriots, 87-61, at Rupp Arena Wednesday afternoon.

The Lady Patriots, who advanced after beating Letcher Central in the 14th Region title game, saw its season end at 25-8.

Jada Higgins poured in 20 points while Keara Mullins finished with 13 and Emily Williams tossed  in 11.

Maalyiya Owens led all scorers for Scott County  (34-1) with 30 points.

LEXINGTON – Owensboro Catholic took the lead away from Bethlehem in the final period and went on to score a hard-fought 53-47 victory in the girls’ Sweet 16 tournament opening round game played at Rupp Arena Wednesday afternoon.

MacKenzie Keelin led Catholic, now 27-7, with 15 points while Hannah McKay tossed in 13 and Sarah Clemens tossed in 10.

Amelia Hodges and Ella Thompson finished with 14 apiece for Bethlehem, which finished 29-4.
