Cole-Williamson named Player of the Week

Pikeville’s Lady Panthers are back in the girls’ Sweet 16 tournament for the first time in 39 years.

Kirsten Cole-Williamson was a key part of the team’s 15th Region tourney run, which saw Pikeville defeat Pike Central, Floyd Central and Johnson Central to advance.

In the semifinals and finals, Cole-Williamson scored 18 points and then 11 points and eight rebounds against Johnson Central.

For her efforts, Cole-Williamson has been named EBK Sports’ Player of the Week.

Other nominees from the 14th and 15th Region tournaments include:

Pikeville’s Trinity Rowe who scored 10 and 12 points; Leslie Stewart who grabbed 17 defensive rebounds in a single game.

Letcher Central’s Brooklynn Collins who scored 14 and 12 to help the Lady Cougars reach the championship game; Teammate Brooke Bates, who had 25 points in the overtime loss to Knott County Central.

Shelby Valley’s Alyssa Newsome and Alyssa Elswick helped the Lady Kats reach the semifinals.

Floyd Central’s Abby Maggard and Lauren Preston who guided the Lady Jaguars into the semifinals.
