PIKEVILLE – Shelby Valley’s 15th Region Tournament run came to an end as Cassidy Rowe’s final shot fell short and Johnson Central escaped with a thrilling 47-46 victory in a game played at the Eastern Kentucky Exposition Center Monday night.
The Lady Eagles, now 18-14, took the late lead on Sammi Sites’ three-point goal. It was their only lead of the second half. Valley’s season ended at 18-16.
Alyssa Newsom tossed in a game-high 16 points to lead the Lady Kats. Alyssa Elswick finished with 13. Rowe finished with seven. It was the most minutes she had played all season.
Hannah Fitch came off the Central bench to score 13 while Alaina Castle tossed in 11 and Sites finished with 10.
The Lady Eagles will face Pikeville tonight in the finals beginning at 7 p.m.
