HS BASKETBALL: Rice earns Player of the Week honors

Johnson Central’s Jacob Rice has been clutch in the post season for the Golden Eagles.

His offensive game has been solid, but it was his defense that help Johnson Central win its 10th regional championship and fifth in the past eight years this past weekend.

Riche had games of 12 and 15 but he held Shelby Valley’s Cody Potter and Pikeville’s Connor Roberts below their average in the 15th Region tournament.

His effort has earned him EBK Sports’ Player of the Week.

Here are other nominees:
Paintsville Nick Keeton had post-season games of 12 points and nine rebounds and 14 points and 11 boards for the Tigers.

Shelby Valley’s Alyssa  Newsom scored 17 and 16 points for the Lady Kats  in 15th Region games. Alyssa Elswick had a pair of 13-point performances.

Pikeville’s Kirsten Cole-Williamson scored 18 and 10 points to help the Lady Panthers in the running for a regional championship.

Pikeville’s Christian Billiter had 19 points to help the Panthers beat Paintsville in the regional semifinals.
