HS BASKETBALL: Conn earns Player of the Week honors

Floyd Central’s Brady Conn was a big part of the Jaguars’ post-season success in the 58th District Tournament this past week.

Conn fired in 30 points and grabbed 16 rebounds  in a 56-54 victory over Lawrence County. He followed that up with 12 points and eight boards in Floyd Central’s championship game win over Prestonsburg.

He is averaging 15 points and nine rebounds per game. His effort this past week lands him as EKB Sports’ Player of the Week.

Conn edged out Johnson Central Cory VanHoose who had games of 24 and 29 points for the Golden Eagles.

Here is a look at this week’s honor roll:

Shelby Valley’s Cody Potter had games of 16 and 23 points and teammate Cameron Worrix scored 13 and 16 for the Wildcats.

Paintsville’s Colby Fugate scored 13 and 24 points in a pair of post-season games for the Tigers.

Pikeville’s Kirsten Cole Williamson had games of 21 and 16 and teammate Alivia Gearheart scored 23 and grabbed 10 rebounds in one game and scored 11 in another.

Shelby Valley’s Alyssa Elswick scored 29 and 16 in games for the Lady Kats.

Belfry’s McKenzie Maynard scored 17 points and had 11 rebounds and then had 14 rebounds in the district championship game for the Lady Pirates.

Johnson Central’s Ashlee Belcher had games of 17 and 16 and teammate Morgan Hopson scored 14 and 18 as the Lady Eagles won the district title.

Lawrence County’s Kensley Feltner scored 16 and 15 points in helping the Lady Dawgs reach the regional tournament.

Team of the Week:

Phelps High School won its first 60th District championship since 2012 by defeating Belfry and Pike County Central.
