59TH DISTRICT: Pikeville, Valley girls reach finals

LICK CREEK – Pikeville took charge in the second half to finally pull away from pesky Jenkins to score an 88-51 victory in the opening round of the 59th District Tournament played at East Ridge High School Feb. 18.

The Lady Panthers, now 23-7, only led 43-36 at the break, but a 19-5, third-period run put the game out of reach. Alivia Gearheart fired in 23 points while Kirsten Cole-Williamson finished with a double-double, scored 21 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Kelsey Jo Tackett tossed in 15 and Grace Bartley net 12.

Jerrica Thacker finished with a game-high 28 points for the Lady Cavaliers, who finished their season 8-22. Lindsey Rose followed with 17.

LICK CREEK – Shelby Valley turned back East Ridge, 58-38, in the opening round of the 59th District Tournament played at East Ridge High School Feb. 18.

Alyssa Elswick stripped the nets for a game-high 29 points as the Lady Kats improved to 17-14. Kristen Whited followed with 13 and Tori Hampton tallied 11.

Haylee Meade was the only Lady Warrior (8-22) to score in double figures as she finished with 13. Kyra Looney chipped in eight. Sarah Tackett pulled down 11 rebounds.
