HS BASKETBALL: Pike Central claims top seed

GOODY – Pike County Central used a big second-half effort to run past Belfry, 62-44, in a 60th District matchup played Jan. 29.

The Hawks, now 15-8, locked up the top seed in the district. The Pirates dropped to 6-16.

Brady Adkins fired in 18 points and Bryce Adkins followed with 15 while DaSean Peen added 12 points.

Dezmon Roblee paced Belfry with 12 points while Ty May added eight and pulled down 12 boards. Brett Coleman chipped in eight.

NAUGATUCK – Tolsia’s Jessie Muncy stripped the nets for 35 points to power the Rebels in overtime to a seasonal sweep of Tug Valley, 75-70 in a game played on Jan. 29.

Caleb May fired in 21 points for the Panthers, now 7-8. Ian Reed finished with 19 while Ethan Colegrove tossed in 12. Easton Davis added eight.

The Rebels, now 11-4, won at home earlier this season, 44-41.

RUSSELL – Lawrence County fell behind early on to Russell and the Bulldogs just couldn’t get over the hump as the Red Devils earned a 77-71 win in a game played at Marvin Meredith Gymnasium Jan. 29.

Tyler Maynard poured in a game-high 25 points for the Bulldogs, now 16-7. Cody Maynard followed with 20 while Noah Fairchild tallied 11 and Chase Sartin netted 10.

Nathan May led four Miners, now 1-13, in double-figure scoring with 14 points. Colton Blankenship and Justin May finished with 13 apiece and Ryan DeBoard tossed in 10.
