UPIKE: Men fall at home to Georgetown

PIKEVILLE – It wasn’t UPIKE’s best night at the office on Saturday as No. 6 Georgetown took control in the second half to down the Bears, 93-74.

Georgetown seemingly couldn’t miss all night, even when UPIKE had good defense and hands in the faces of shooters. The Tigers came out of halftime on fire, making seven of their first eight shots during a 12-4 run.

UPIKE’s offense was also relatively effective, actually shooting a higher percentage than the Tigers at 52.8 percent. The Bears’ downfall came on the glass, as they were outrebounded 37-21. Georgetown also had 13 offensive rebounds which resulted in 13 second chance points.

Four Bears starters scored in double figures, led by Jayvian Delacruz’s 17 points. He also led the team with six rebounds. Xaviar Gaona has the most efficient afternoon for the Bears, making six of his nine shots, while Jovontae Carleton made four 3-pointers to score 15.
