RICHMOND – The numbers finally caught up with Shelby Valley.
Playing for a sixth time in eight days, the fatigue factor finally showed its ugly head in the second half as the Wildcats saw a 16-point, first-half lead slip away as University Heights rallied for a 59-49 win in the All “A” Classic boys’ semifinals played at McBrayer Arena Saturday night.
The Wildcats held a 38-22 lead in the second period before Xavier-signee “Ky Ky” Tandy and William Bryan fueled the comeback, sending the Blazers, now 20-3, into Sunday’s championship game against Lexington Christian.
Cody Potter paced the Wildcats, who dropped to 20-4, with a game-high 25 points. He scored 22 in the opening half.
Valley managed just 11, second-half points. Despite it, the Wildcats had the game tied at 47-all with just over two minutes to play.
UHA closed on a 12-2 run in a game that was nip and tuck throughout until the Blazer padded the margin of victory with late free throws.
