HS BASKETBALL: Lady Jags fall in overtime

MOREHEAD – Floyd Central bid to reach the Class 2A, Section IV championship game was denied by host Rowan County as the Lady Jaguars dropped a 76-71 game in overtime at Warren H. Cooper Gymnasium Jan. 12.

The Lady Jaguars, now 15-1, saw a fourth-quarter lead slip away as the Lady Vikings (12-3) rallied to take a two-point lead before Kaylee Moore’s free throws with 9.9 seconds left sent it to overtime.

Katie Jo Moore paced Floyd Central with a game-high 26 points while Kaylee Moore tossed in 13 and Lauren Preston net 11. Brooke Stumbo chipped in eight.

GOODY – Belfry sophomore McKenzie Maynard had a triple-double to lead the Lady Pirates to a 53-31 victory over Perry Central in a game played Jan. 12.

Maynard finished with 19 points, 13 rebounds and 13 blocks, giving her 116 this season.

Linzee Phillips added 14 points as Belfry moved to 7-9.

PAINTSVILLE – Paintsville slowly pulled away from pesky East Ridge to earn a 62-54 win in a game played Jan. 11.

Anna Keeton fired in a game-high 28 points and Elizabeth Williams added 20 as the Lady Tigers improved to 13-3. Clara Blair chipped in nine.

Haylee Meade paced the Lady Warriors (3-13) with 14 points while Sarah Tackett followed with nine. Kyra Looney, Sylvia Ratliff and Kelsi Slone had eight each.
