Floyd Central’s come-from-behind victory over Pike County Central this past Saturday night solidified the Lady Jaguars ranking as the top team in the latest EKB Sports’ Super 7 girls’ high school basketball poll released Sunday afternoon.
The Lady Jaguars, now 15-0, defeated Belfry (46-42); Magoffin County (64-38); and the Lady Hawks (58-50) to capture the 15th Region 2-A Classic championship.
Floyd Central is followed by Logan’s Lady Wildcats, who are 7-1, following a big home win over Mingo Central.
Paintsville (11-2) tumbled from the top spot to number three following back-to-back losses to Shelby Valley and county-rival Johnson Central.
The Lady Tigers are followed by Pike County Central (11-6) in fourth place, leaping over Lawrence County (11-3). The Lady Bulldogs dropped to fifth.
Pikeville’s Lady Panthers, now 10-5, are sixth, followed by Letcher Central (8-3) in at number seven.
Prestonsburg (8-6) and Johnson Central (9-8) received votes.
