HS BASKETBALL: Valley girls hand Paintsville first loss

ROBINSON CREEKShelby Valley pulled away in the second half to send Paintsville to its first loss this season, 65-39, in a game played at the Shelby Valley Sports Center Jan. 3.

Alyssa Elswick and Kylie Hall paced the Lady Kats, now 8-8, with 14 points apiece while Tori Hampton followed with 13.

Elizabeth Williams led all scorers with 17 points for the Lady Tigers, now 11-1.

SALYERSVILLE – Pike County Central built a double-digit, first quarter lead and went on to beat Lawrence County, 54-40, in the 15th Region 2-A Classic played at Magoffin County High School Jan. 3.

Kelsi Brinager poured in a game-high 21 points and Cassidy Mullins  added 15 as the Lady Hawks improved to 11-5.

Kensley Feltner led the Lady Dawgs (11-3) with 17 points and Alexis Ratliff tossed in 13.

Abby Maggard led four Floyd Central (14-0) players in double-figure scoring with 12 points. Kaylee Moore followed with 11 while Grace Martin and Katie Jo Moore tossed in 10 apiece. Lauren Preston chipped in eight.

Kennedi Stacy fired in a game-high 18 points for the Lady Hornets, now 4-10.

Grace Bartley tossed in 13 points while Leslie Stewart and Kirsten Cole-Williamson followed with 11 apiece as the Lady Panthers improved to 9-5. Alivia Gearheart and Jaden Edmonds added eight each.

HINDMAN – Piarist School’s Kylie Tackett fired in 21 points to lead the Lady Knights to a 45-39 win over Cordia at Hindman Homeschool Jan. 3.
