Perfect game highlights holiday bowling roundup

PIKEVILLE –  The men’s and women’s bowling teams spent the holiday break on two opposite sides of the country, and each team came away with achievements to be proud of.

Men’s Bowling

The men’s team spent the week before Christmas out west in Las Vegas to participate in the Las Vegas Invitational and the Las Vegas Shoot-Out.

The biggest highlight of the week came on the very first day of their four-day trip when Jonathan Lovett bowled a perfect game, his second of the season. That performance helped lead the Bears to a 16th place finish in the team round, where they lost in bracket play to No. 1 seed Webber International in a tight match, 3-2.

Later that same week the Bears participated in the Las Vegas Shoot-Out where the Bears couldn’t overcome a couple early slipups and finished 12th after the two-day event.

Women’s Bowling

UPIKE women’s bowling participated in a pair of Tier 1 tournaments after Christmas on the east coast in eastern Pennsylvania. The first of which was the Lehigh Valley Classic, where the Bears had arguably its best performance of the season, given the circumstances.

Down two starters, The Bears came away champions of the Lehigh Valley Classic by 72 total pins, its fifth tournament win in a row. Lauren Piotrowski and Mallory Liversedge were both named to the all-tournament team. Piotrowski finished in a tie for first overall as an individual, with 1,120 total pins

The two months of magic came to an end later that weekend though at the Roto Grip Keystone Classic, where the Bears finished second behind Robert Morris (Ill.). Piotrowski also had a strong individual performance, finishing fourth overall with 985 pins.
