HS BASKETBALL: Lady Tigers, Dawgs remain unbeaten

GATLINBURG, Tenn. – Paintsville’s Claira Blair poured in a game-high 24 points to lead the Lady Tigers to a 59-44 win over George Wythe (Va.) in the championship game of the Smoky Mountain Classic played Dec. 22.

Anna Keeton added 20 points as Paintsville improved to 9-0 and won its third tournament title. Elizabeth Williams added 15. They were the only players to score.

Paintsville held a slim one-point lead heading into the final quarter of play.

Alyssa Elswick led the way with 24 points and nine rebounds as Valley evened its record at 6-6. Kylie Hall added 15 points.

BOWLING GREEN – Pike County Central rallied in the final eight minutes to slip past Sheldon Clark, 50-44, in the final game of the Warren East Holiday Hoops Classic played Dec. 21.

The Lady Hawks, now 7-5, were led by Chloe Neece’s game-high 19 points.

Maddie Thompson paced the Lady Cardinals (4-6) with 16 points while McKenzie Preston followed with 10 and Paige Maynard chipped in nine.

Belfry’s McKenzie Maynard fired in a game-high 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to finish with a double-double for the Lady Pirates, now 4-4. Lyndsey Miller tossed in 11.
