Potter unanimous choice for Player of the Week

Shelby Valley junior standout Cody Potter continued his torrid early-season scoring spree during this past weekend’s Hi-Tech Signs/Graphix Holiday Classic at Prestonsburg.

Potter, who is now averaging 28.4 points per game through the Wildcats first eight games, scored 19, 42 and 40 in wins over Prestonsburg, Perry Central and Cordia. He is averaging 9.8 rebounds per outing.

His performance has earned him EKB Sports’ Player of the Week award for the second time in three weeks.

Here is this week’s honor roll:
Paintsville’s Anna Keeton put up 23, 27 and 20 as the Lady Tigers stayed unbeaten while winning their third Smoky Mountain Classic championship. Paintsville, now 9-0, beat Union County, Tenn., East Hickman, Tenn., and Wythe, Va.

Johnson Central’s Cory VanHoose had games of 28, 14 and 14 to help the Golden Eagles improved to 7-1. Teammate Isaiah May scored 17, 21, 11 and 11.

Magoffin County’s Brady Whitaker averaged 20 points per game for the Hornets.

Paintsville’s Colby Fugate averaged double figures in four games for the Tigers.

Belfry’s McKenzie Maynard scored 19, 8 and 28 for the Lady Pirates and averaged nearly 12 rebounds in three games.

Jenkins’ John Fleming scored 17 points and had 11 rebounds as he helped the Cavaliers end a 42-game losing streak in a 72-69 win over Jackson City.

Shelby Valley’s Alyssa Elswick scored 14, 16 and 24 points for the Lady Kats who have climbed back to .500 without Kentucky signee Cassidy Rowe.

Pike Central’s Cassidy Mullins had 14, 17 and 11 in three games for the Lady Hawks.

This week’s milestones:

Paintsville’s Elizabeth Williams went over 1,500 points in her career.

Pikeville’s Connor Roberts reached 1,000 points in his career.

Paintsville’s Seth Williams scored his 1,000th point.
