EKB Sports Super 7: Valley remains No. 1

The Shelby Valley Wildcats held on to the number one ranking in the latest EKB Sports’ Super 7 boys’ basketball poll released Christmas.

The Wildcats are now 8-0 after winning three times this past weekend in the Hi-Tech Signs/Graphix Holiday Classic played at Prestonsburg Fieldhouse.

Valley was ranked just ahead of defending West Virginia Class AA champion Chapmanville Regional. The Tigers improved to 5-0 after winning twice in their own holiday tournament, including a narrow win over powerhouse Fairmont Senior.

The Paintsville Tigers, with a record of 8-2, moved ahead of Logan into third place. The Wildcats, now 5-1, dropped one spot to number four.

Johnson Central improved to 7-1 and is fifth, followed by Pikeville (5-2) in the sixth position and Lawrence County (7-4) is seventh.

Letcher Central (7-2) received votes.

(Editor’s Note: Wesley Christian School is not ranked in the weekly poll. KHSAA and WVSSAC schools are eligible. The Circuit Riders are a private school which plays a number of national powers and qualifies for national rankings.)
