GOODY – Beating Belfry at CAM Stadium has been few and far between for post-season opponents.
Boyle County’s 41-24 win this past Friday night was the first time the Pirates had lost a playoff game at home since falling to Sheldon Clark back in 2009.
The Pirates, who finished 10-3, didn’t help this cause against the defending Class 3A champions, turning the football over five times, including four fumbles, which allowed the Rebels, now 13-0, to erase an early 10-point deficit and turn the game around.
Belfry trailed by only three point at 27-24 after Ben Bentley’s 99-yard kickoff return with four minutes, 12 seconds left in the third period.
The Pirates never scored again.
Running back Isaac Dixon finished with 115 yards and one touchdown on 16 carries. Brett Coleman totaled 97 yards and one score on 18 rushes.
Boyle County quarterback Reed Lanter completed 19 of 25 passes for 269 yards and five touchdowns. Reese Smith hauled in six catches for 138 yards and four scores.
