UPIKE: Men’s bowling finishes third

BEAVERCREEK, Ohio. – UPIKE men’s bowling put on another strong showing over the weekend with its third-place finish at the Roto Grip Raider Classic hosted by Wright State.

The Bears ended the first day in third place behind three strong team games. Pikeville bowled two games over 1,000 and was just short on a third (996) to lead the secondary pack at 4,989. Wright State and Notre Dame – Ohio were first and second at 5,183 and 5,133 pins respectively.

Jonathan Lovett and Gio Montecinos led the Bears with sixth and 20th place finishes individually from the team games. Lovett finished two pins ahead of Notre Dame’s Ryan Liederbach to earn a spot on the varsity all-tournament team.

UPIKE came on strong in Sunday’s baker games, posting the highest score among all competitors at 4,165 pins across the 20 games. However, the Bears couldn’t close the gap between them and Notre Dame and went into the eliminator playoff as the third seed.

Pikeville bowled a 746 in the four semi-final baker games to finish third overall.

On the JV side, both UPIKE teams made the finals with the JV2 team winning the junior varsity title. Jacob Horrell was named to the JV all-tournament team after finishing fifth overall in his division.

UP NEXT

The Bears will now have a long break for the Thanksgiving holiday before heading out to Las Vegas for the Las Vegas Invitational on Dec. 17-18 and the Las Vegas Shootout on Dec. 19-20.
