Johnson Central closed out the regular season with a dominating 34-21 win over the Belfry Pirates at rain-soaked Eagle Field this past Friday night.
The Golden Eagles, who lost the season opener to Capital, won its ninth straight to capture the unanimous No. 1 ranking in the final EKB Sports Super 7 high school football poll.
Belfry, despite dropping to 8-2, held on to second place this week, followed by the Shelby Valley Wildcats. Valley, now 9-1, hammered Boyd County.
Pikeville (7-2) finished the regular-season poll fourth, followed by idle Paintsville (8-2). Both begin their run to the state finals Friday night.
Mingo Central (7-2) is sixth following the Miners home win over Chapmanville while Letcher Central(5-5) is seventh. The Cougars won five of their final six games.
