UPIKE’s Bowen Smith named Appy Player of the Week

PIKEVILLE – After his second straight game with four or more touchdowns, UPIKE quarterback Bowen Smith is finally taking home some conference honors. The Aiken, S.C. native was named the Mid-South Conference Appalachian Division Offensive Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday.

Smith completed 8-of-16 passes for 144 yards and two touchdowns, but also rushed for two touchdowns in the Bears’ 54-21 homecoming win against Union. He has improved as the season has progressed, and now sits at 1,284 yards on the year with 14 touchdowns to two interceptions. The 14 touchdowns is sixth-most in program history.

This is Smith’s first weekly honor in his career, and the first weekly honor earned by UPIKE football this season.
