VOLLEYBALL: Floyd Central, Paintsville reach finals

STANVILLE – The Floyd Central Lady Jaguars and Paintsville Lady Tigers advanced to the 15th Region girls’ volleyball championship match set for 6:30 p.m. tonight at Betsy Layne High School gymnasium.

The Lady Jaguars (28-6) rallied from a one-set deficit to eliminate East Ridge (25-11) in five sets, 3-2. Meanwhile, the Lady Tigers were dominant in a 3-0 win over Pikeville.

Allison Turner had 15 kills and 11 digs in the Lady Jags’ 17-25, 25-23, 15-25, 26-24 and 15-10 match win.

Caley Howard followed with 10 kills while Allyson Stumbo and Alexis Daniels added nine apiece.

Kiara Warrens collected 24 digs and Alivia Stumbo finished with 14 while Amelia Wallace totaled 23 assists and Caroline Parson had 20.

Hannah King finished with 28 kills and 16 digs for the Lady Warriors. Haylee Meade had 14 digs and had 40 assists.

Haley Parks totaled 16 digs and served four aces while Sarah Tackett totaled 12 kills and Kelsi Slone collected 19 digs and Lexi Little 11.

Paintsville rolled 25-20, 25-21 and 25-15, while improving to a region best 34-3. Pikeville’s season ends at 31-8.

Megan Taylor led the Lady Tigers with 34 kills, five blocks and one serving ace while Lindsey Nelson finished with 33 assists.

Anna James collected nine digs.

In 14th Region play, Letcher Central defeated Leslie County, 3-0 (25-12, 25-18 and 25-20).

The Lady Cougars, now 29-3, will face Wolfe County at 7 p.m. tonight at Perry County Central in the championship match.
