BEAVERCREEK, Ohio – In her first tournament in a UPIKE uniform, Brittney Turcotte lit the lanes on fire to lead the Bears to a first-place finish in the qualifying round of the Orange and Black Classic over the weekend.
Turcotte threw the best and third-best individual games of the entire round with a 267 in game four and 245 in game five. She claimed the top spot in the individual side by 56 pins over her teammate Jessica Wolfe.
Wolfe took second-place and all-tournament honors after bowling four games in the 200s, a feat only her and Turcotte accomplished. She totaled 1,051 pins, 24 more than the next closest competitor. Lauren Piotrowski also had a strong performance, earning all-tournament honors with a fifth-place finish at 1,008 pins.
That trio as well as a dominant outing in the baker games helped lead UPIKE to a 429-pin victory in the qualifying round over the defending ITC champion Lindenwood University, who finished second. The nearest Mid-South competitor, Campbellsville, finished over 1,000 pins behind.
In match play, after the Bears defeated Bowling Green in the first round, UPIKE fell to Campbellsville 3-2 in the semifinals. Wright State took home the team trophy after beating Campbellsville in the finals.
UPIKE’s JV1 team took home the JV championship, defeating Wright State 3-1 in the finals. They defeated the UPIKE JV2 team in the semifinals in a bit of friendly fire.
