EKB Sports Super 7: Golden Eagles, Pirates remain No. 1

The Johnson Central Golden Eagles (7-1) and Belfry Pirates (7-1) remain tied for the top spot in the latest EKB Sports Super 7 football poll released Monday.

Johnson Central and Belfry have both won seven straight games since dropping the season opener to West Virginia powers Capital and Huntington High, respectively.

The Golden Eagles will face unbeaten Ashland Blazer (9-0) Friday night at Eagle Field while the Pirates tackles Pike County Central (3-5).

Shelby Valley took over sole possession of third place following the Wildcats’ 49-38 district championship win over Leslie County on the road. Valley will host East Ridge (2-6) at Teco Field Friday night.

Paintsville (7-2) moved into a fourth-place tie with Pikeville (5-2) this week following the Tigers’ 38-37 road win over bitter-rival Hazard. The Panthers rolled to a 47-0 win over Phelps in a district matchup.

The Tigers will visit Raceland (9-0) and the Panthers journey to Grundy, Va. (5-2) Friday night.

Mingo Central (5-2) is sixth following the Miners’ 58-6 win over Scott. The Miners will play at Herbert Hoover (1-6) Friday night.

Floyd Central (5-3) and Lawrence County (5-4) round out the poll. The Jaguars and Bulldogs will clash at FCHS Friday night.
