Volleyball offense sputters in loss to Campbellsville

CAMPBELLSVILLE, TennUPIKE volleyball is still looking for its first win of the conference season after the Campbellsville defense stonewalled the Bears in a straight set victory (25-18, 25-19, 25-18).

As a team, the Bears hit .104 compared to Campbellsville’s .198 output. Noelani Simpson led UPIKE with 15 kills, but no other attacker had more than three for Pikeville.

UPIKE stayed within four points for most of the first set, but a late 4-0 run gave the Tigers the set victory. Sets two and three were more of a comeback effort for UPIKE, who fell behind big early and closed the gap some but were unable to clinch the set.

Campbellsville was led by the trio of Maria Coelho, Sonia Flendrich, and Irene Baroni with 13, seven, and six kills respectively.
