LOUISA – Lawrence County swept Belfry to claim the 58th District soccer tournaments played at the Dawg House Wednesday night.
Luke Johnson had a pair of unassisted goals as the Bulldogs scored all three goals in a three-minute span in the second half for the 3-0 win. Tyler Maynard added an unassisted goal.
Lawrence County, now 11-3-1, took 14 shots on goal while Belfry (8-6-2) managed nine. Pirate goalkeeper Caleb Spears had 10 saves while Bulldog Trent Adkins stopped eight shots.
Both teams advance to the 15th Region tournament next week at StoneCrest Soccer Complex.
The Lady Bulldogs built a four-goal, halftime lead and cruised to a 9-10 win over the Lady Pirates.
Zayla Granillo had three goals and assisted on two others as LCHS moved to 17-1-0. Hayleigh Fletcher, Jasmine Justice, Emily Webb, Sarah Lykins, Jordan Stepp and Kyle Maynard added one apiece.
Belfry’s lone goal came from Robbi-Ann Brewer off an assist by Kylie Gollihue.
The Lady Bulldogs took 41 shots on goal while the Lady Pirates (13-7-1) managed only five. Pirate goalkeeper Kenzie Maynard totaled 26 saves.
Both teams advance to the 15th Region tournament next week at Bob Amos Soccer Complex.
In other boys’ matches Wednesday:
Prestonsburg and Johnson Central advanced to tonight’s 57th District tournament championship tonight at Sheldon Clark with victories over Sheldon Clark and Paintsville, respectively.
The Blackcats scored a 6-2 victory while the Golden Eagles edged the Tigers, 3-2. The title match begins at 8 p.m.
Isaiah Collins knocked home three goals while Ben Burchett, Nate Blackburn and Blake Sizemore added one each. Matt Burchett finished with an assist in the Blackcats win.
Perry Central blanked Hazard in the 53rd District title match, 3-0.
In other girls’ matches:
Letcher Central claimed the 53rd District tournament championship with a 3-2 win over Perry Central.
Sameerah Frazier, Hannah Sexton and Kelsey Helle had one goal each for the Lady Cougars.
The 57th District tournament championship match will be played at The Rock tonight as Johnson Central goes up against Prestonsburg. Action begins at 6 p.m.
