SOCCER: Gollihue powers Belfry past Valley

Belfry’s Kylie Gollihue scored six goals, including two unassisted, to lead the Lady Pirates to a 7-1 win over Shelby Valley in the 58th District tournament opener played at Lawrence County High School Monday night.

Kylea Stanley added an unassisted goal as Belfry improved to 13-6-1.

The Lady Pirates took 37 shots on goal. Valley goalkeeper Angel Newsome had 19 saves.

Valley’s lone goal came from Abby Branham as the Lady Wildcats season ended at 4-11-2.

Belfry will now face Lawrence County in the championship matchup after the Lady Bulldogs defeated Pikeville, 10-0.

Jordan Stepp had four goals while Zayla Granillo and Kylie Maynard added two goals apiece and assisted on two others as LC moved to 15-1-0.

Ellie Webb added one goal and two assists while Jasmine Justice scored.

Belfry and Lawrence County meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday night in Louisa.

In 53rd District action, Letcher Central scored a 4-0 win over Hazard. Sameerah Frazier knocked  home three goals and Hannah Sexton added one.

The Lady Cougars will battle Perry County Central in the title match at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

In boys’ action Monday, Hazard eliminated Letcher Central, 3-0.
